K2 Designer Overview

The K2 Designer provides a user with the ability to build SmartObjects, Views and Forms. It also allows users to integrate Forms with Workflows and interact with SmartObjects. The K2 Designer user interface is contained within a web browser which enables the application to be accessible from anywhere.

From a hierarchical perspective each Form requires at least one View, and Views are associated with a SmartObject. Each Form has one or more Views. A View is associated with a single SmartObject and Controls on a View can be bound to other SmartObject properties.

To open the K2 Designer open a supported browser and type in the K2 Designer Site URL . The root URL is typically http:// {webserver}/designer. An example of the URL is http://k2.denallix.com/designer. Once the site opens the K2 Designer is displayed as below:

The Category tree is located in the left panel of the K2 Designer. The Category tree consists of My Items, All Items and Recent Items. This includes all SmartObjects, Views, Forms and Workflows.

The following actions can be performed from the K2 Designer landing page and is located in the New section at the top of the page:

  • Form - Design a Form by clicking on the link
  • View - Design a View by clicking on the link
  • Workflow - Integrate a Form with a workflow by clicking on the link
  • SmartObject  - Design a SmartObject by clicking on the link

Recently used items are listed for quick access in the Recent section at the bottom of the page. Click on any of the links to open the required item.

The More section at the bottom of the page includes the following links:

Items that have been created in the K2 Designer are listed in the K2 Designer Grid of the sub-categories called My Items,  All Items or Recent Items and can be accessed from here as shown below.

The Category Tree on the left of the screen provides you with the ability to customize the tree folder structure and perform certain actions. See the Category Tree topic for more detail on the customization and the application of the grid. The following additional resources are available on each grid and can be accessed by clicking on the My Items, All Items or Recent Items nodes in the Category Tree:

  • Right click anywhere in the blank grid or on an item to execute context menu actions.
  • Use Ctrl + A keyboard buttons to select all items in the grid.
  • Delete all selected items in the grid using the keyboard delete button or the Delete toolbar button.
  • Select the parent category in the Category Tree on the left to view all child items in the grid on the right.
  • Use the Search feature in the Category Tree to select multiple items and perform context menu actions on all items selected.
  • Filter the grid using the Category filter.
  • Use the status bar to see how many items are selected.
