Credentials
Credentials contain a username and encrypted password. Credentials are encrypted using the very secure Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). For more information, see Encryption Standards. You can create and use credentials for individual botflows in Nintex Bot, but those credentials can only be accessed and used for that individual botflow. In the Credential Vault in Nintex RPA Central, you can create credentials that can be accessed and used for any and all botflows with the Send Credential and Credential Exists actions. The Credential Vault saves you time by centralizing the creation of credentials and securely stores the login details your botflows need to interact with applications, systems, and websites. You can create credentials once and use them for many botflows.
Based on your role, you can create and manage credentials as described in the following sections:
View credential details
On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard and then click Credentials in the side navigation menu. The Credentials page displays the following details for the credentials for which the logged in user has permission.

Create a new credential
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Credentials in the side navigation menu.

Click Create Credential. The Credential configuration panel displays on the right.

Enter a Name for the credential.

(Optional) Enter a Description for the credential. For example, ABC Website Login.

Enter the Username for the credential.

Enter the Password for the credential.
- To add more fields, click Add additional fields or Add field and follow the instructions below. You can add fields to store custom metadata alongside credentials, such as environment details and port numbers (for example, a service account might have additional fields for the domain and linked server). You can add as many additional fields as needed.
- Enter a Name for the field.
- Enter a Value for the field. For security purposes, after you save the value, it will be hidden and cannot be seen again. However, you can click the Edit icon and modify it and enter a new value for the field that will overwrite the original value.
- Click Save Field.

Click Save. The new credential is added to the Credentials table.
You must click Save or Cancel to close the Credential configuration panel and use other features in Nintex RPA Central.
Edit a credential
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Credentials in the side navigation menu.
- Click on the credential name. The Credential configuration panel displays on the right.
- Edit the fields as needed.
- To edit more fields, expand the Additional fields menu and follow the instructions below. You can also click Add field to add a field to an existing credential. For more information on adding fields, see step 8 above.
- Click the Edit icon next to the field value.
- Edit the Name and Value as needed. For security purposes, after you save the value, it will be hidden and cannot be seen again. However, you can modify it while editing it and enter a new value for the field that will overwrite the original value.
- Click Save Field.
- To delete more fields, expand the Additional fields menu and follow the instructions below:
- Click the Delete icon near the field value.
- Confirm the deletion and click Delete. Deleting the field will break any botflows that use it.

Click Save.
You must click Save or Cancel to close the Credential configuration panel and use other features in Nintex RPA Central.
Delete a credential
Only administrators and designers can delete credentials. Deleting a credential will break any botflows that use it for authentication.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Credentials in the side navigation menu.
- Click
(More options).
- Select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion and click Delete.
Assign credential permissions
Administrators can assign credential permissions to individuals or groups of users (for example, all designers), thereby managing which designers have access to use or modify each credential. Designers can also assign credential permissions to other designers for credentials that they have created.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Credentials in the side navigation menu.
- Click
(More options).
- Select Permissions.

Select individuals or groups (for example, all designers) to have access to the credential.

Administrators automatically have access to all credentials.

Designers can create credentials and edit and delete credentials that they have saved. They can also edit and delete credentials for which they have been assigned permission.
