Bots
The Bot (Nintex Bot) is the software application installed on a machine, either real or virtual. Bots are identified by the computer the software is on. After you create a botflow in Nintex RPA Central, a bot is required to design the botflow steps. Each bot must be deployed on its own physical or virtual Windows machine on the same domain where you have installed Nintex RPA Central.
- Nintex Bot is historically known as Nintex RPA LE in the product versions preceding version 17.0.
- The term bot in the product and help documentation refers to Nintex Bot.

Nintex RPA Central 2.0 only works with Nintex Bot version 17.0.

If a firewall is in place, confirm with your IT team managing the firewall that outbound HTTPS access to the endpoint rpadownload.nintex.io is currently allowed from the Nintex RPA Central server and safe listed. For more information, see Review the pre-installation checklist.
An Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. can install the Nintex Bot on the same machine where Nintex RPA Central is installed. To enable other users with Designer A user with limited use of functionality in RPA Central, but able to use all functionality in Nintex Bot. roles to manage botflows in Nintex RPA Central, follow these steps as described in the following sections:
- Administrators can copy and send the URL with installation instructions to users with the Designer role.
- Designers can use the shared link to access a web page with instructions to download and install Nintex Bot.
- After installing Nintex Bot, Designers must request access to Nintex RPA Central.
- An Administrator must grant access to the Nintex Bot.
View Nintex Bot details
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu. The Bots page displays the following details.

Add a Nintex Bot
Follow these steps to add a Nintex Bot in Nintex RPA Central. This Nintex Bot can then be assigned for running botflows from the Botflows page.

You cannot add and enable Nintex Bots in excess of your licensed bot entitlement. For more information, see License and subscription.

If you need to distribute the Nintex Bot installation to individual machines automatically across your organization, Nintex Bot users do not have local full administrator rights for security reasons, or you want to use a program like AdminStudio or a mobile distribution manager (MDM) to distribute product installations, download and use the Nintex Bot MSI package in the latest Nintex RPA LE release notes.
1. (Optional) Download the Nintex Bot setup file from Nintex RPA Central
Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. role required.
Note: If you already downloaded Nintex Bot from the from the Product Releases page, or if it was automatically deployed to your system, you do not need to complete the instructions in this step.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu.
- Click Add Nintex Bot.
- Click Nintex Bot.
The NintexRPABotSetup<version>.exe setup file is downloaded. The setup file version that is downloaded is dependent on your Nintex RPA Central version. This setup file can be installed on any machine in your domain.
- Click Copy URL to copy the Nintex RPA Central URL.
- Paste the URL in a text file so that later you can copy and paste it in the Nintex Bot to request access to Nintex RPA Central.
2. Install Nintex Bot on other machines
Note: If you need to distribute the Nintex Bot installation to individual machines automatically across your organization, Nintex Bot users do not have local full administrator rights for security reasons, or you want to use a program like AdminStudio or a mobile distribution manager (MDM) to distribute product installations, download and use the Nintex Bot MSI package in the latest Nintex RPA LE release notes.

Request a Nintex RPA Central URL from your Administrator. For more information, see User management.

Click on the URL that you received from the Nintex RPA Central Administrator.
- Click Nintex Bot.
- Click Copy URL to copy the Nintex RPA Central URL.
- Paste the URL in a text file so that later you can copy and paste it in the Nintex Bot to request access to Nintex RPA Central.
- Accept the default settings and click Next until you complete all of the installation steps.
- Restart the computer. If you encounter issues immediately after installation, be sure to complete this step and restart the computer.
3. Request access to Nintex RPA Central in Nintex Bot
- From the Windows Start menu, open Nintex Bot. Click OK if the Warning screen displays.
Note: To return to the Request access to Nintex RPA Central screen at any time, click (gear icon) in the bottom right corner of the Nintex RPA LE Home screen.
- Type a Bot name to identify this Nintex Bot in Nintex RPA Central.
- Paste the Nintex RPA Central URL that you copied into the text file.
- Click Request access.
The Nintex Bot access requested details are displayed on the Bots page in Nintex RPA Central. An administrator must grant access to the Nintex Bot as described in Bots.
4. Grant access to Nintex Bot in Nintex RPA Central
Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. role required.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu.
- For the Nintex Bot you want to grant access, click > Grant access.
You can now assign this Nintex Bot to the botflows that you have created on the Botflows page.
Disable a Nintex Bot
Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. role required.
You can disable the Nintex Bot if you want to temporarily stop running the associated botflows. Note that disabling a Nintex Bot will change the associated botflows status to Draft.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu. The Bots page displays.
- For the Nintex Bot you want to disable, click > Disable.
- Click Disable to confirm. The Nintex Bot status will display Disabled and all associated botflow status will change to Draft.
Enable a Nintex Bot
Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. role required.
You can enable a disabled Nintex Bot when you want to publish and run the associated botflows.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu. The Bots page displays.
- For the Nintex Bot with Disabled status, that you want to enable, click > Enable. The Nintex Bot status will display Ready and all associated botflow status will change to Draft.
Delete a Nintex Bot
Administrator A user who can use all functionality in both Nintex RPA Central and Nintex Bot. role required.
You can delete a Nintex Bot if you no longer require the Nintex Bot for running botflow. Deleting a Nintex Bot will remove any reference to it and will no longer be able to run any botflows.
Important: You can only delete a disabled Nintex Bot.
- On the top navigation bar, click Dashboard.
- Click Bots in the side navigation menu. The Bots page displays.
- For the Nintex Bot with Disabled status, that you want to delete, click > Delete.
- Click Delete to confirm. The Nintex Bot is deleted.
