SharePoint Online - Create a site

Use the SharePoint Online - Create a site action A tool for building the processes, logic, and direction within workflows. to create a site in the specified parent SharePoint Online site URL.

Configure the SharePoint Online - Create a site action

Important: Before inserting variables in the action configuration, you must manually type or select the values and populate other dependent fields in order to retrieve the output data. Once configured, you can insert variables to the required fields.

  1. Add the action to the workflow and open the action configuration panel. For more information, see Add, rename, and copy actions.

  2. Select a SharePoint Online Connection. If you do not have a connection, see Add a connection.

    Note: Only the connections created with the Administration authentication method are available in the drop-down. For more information about authentication methods for SharePoint Online connections, see Authentication methods for SharePoint Online connections.

  3. Type a Parent SharePoint site URL and click Retrieve site data.

    Example:https://domain.sharepoint.com/sites/hr/

  1. Type a Site title for the site that you want to create.
  2. Example: onboarding

  1. Type the URL path site name.
  1. Select the desired Language.
  2. Select a Template for the site. You can also select any custom templates for the site.
  1. Select a Permission to set access permission for the site.
  2. Note: If you select Use unique permissions for Permission, you must provide Site owners. Site owners should be a collection of usernames.

The URL of the parent SharePoint Online site in which you want to create a site.

To retrieve the SharePoint site data, type the SharePoint site URL and click Retrieve site data.

The title of the site to be created.

  Permission

The permissions that should be applied on the site to be created. The following options are available:

  • Use same permissions of parent site: Choosing this option will inherit all the permission (site owner) settings from the parent site.
  • Use unique permissions: Choosing this option requires you to assign a site owner.

Owners of the site to be created. Accepts an inserted variable.

This field is mandatory if Use unique permissions is selected for Permission.

This should be a collection of usernames.

Collection
New site navigation Add link to the Quick Launch of the parent site

Options to set the quick launch link for the site to be created. The following options are displayed:

  • Yes: A quick launch menu (left hand navigation) for the new site is added in your SharePoint site home page.
  • No: No quick launch menu is not created.

  Add link to the top link bar of the parent site

Options to set the top link bar for the site to be created. The following options are displayed:

  • Yes: The new site link is added to the top navigation bar in the parent site
  • No: No links are added.

  Inherit the top link bar of the parent site

Options to inherit the top link bar set up for the site to be created. The following options are displayed:

  • Yes: The new site's top link bar will include all the existing links from the parent site.
  • No: The new site's top link bar is not updated.

Stores the result of the action as an object with the following variable:

  • New site URL: Text variable to store the URL of the created site.
