Dropbox Business - Get file metadata

The Dropbox Business - Get file metadata  action A tool for building the processes, logic, and direction within workflows. retrieves and stores metadata attributes associated with a specified file in a selected Dropbox Business account.

You can select a variable to store the file name, file path, modified date, and file size metadata attributes which can be used throughout your workflow in other actions.

Configure the Dropbox Business - Get file metadata action

  1. Add the action to the workflow and open the action configuration panel. For more information, see Add, rename, and copy actions.

  2. Select a Connection. If you do not have a connection, see Add a connection.
  1. Select a Member ID.
  2. In Path, type the path of the file you want to retrieve the metadata or click the browse icon () to browse the folder structure and select the path.
  3. Note: A Connection and Member ID must be selected for the Path field to become configurable.

Caution: If a file/folder that's used in a workflow is moved, renamed, or deleted, any workflows that use that file/folder will not start or will fail. Make sure you keep the paths in your workflow configurations up to date.

Output Result

Stores the result of the action as an object with the following variables:

  • File name: (Text) The name of the file from which metadata was retrieved.

  • File pathname: (Text) The full file path of the file from which metadata was retrieved.

  • Last modified: (DateTime) The date the file was last modified.

  • Last modified: (Decimal) The size of the file in bytes.
