Forms designer ribbon

This topic describes the selections available in the Nintex Forms designer ribbon.

The ribbon contains the following buttons and tabs.

  • Undo and Redo buttons above the tabs
  • Nintex Forms 2016 tab
  • Control tab (the tab name corresponds with selected control)

Buttons above the tabs

  • Undo icon: Undo the last action. A stack of up to 50 undo actions is available.
  • Redo icon: Reverses the most recent Undo action.

Note: Changes to Rules cannot be undone; with the exception of deleting a rule.

Nintex Forms 2016 tab

Section Button Description
Form Save

See Save and publish forms.
  Publish See  Save and publish forms.
  Preview Displays the form as it will be rendered in the configured device layouts. See Preview a form.
  Close Closes the Nintex Forms designer and returns to the original location. You are prompted to save the current form before closing.
  Reset Resets the current form to the original, auto-generated state.
  Delete Form Deletes the current form and restores the default form that was in use before a Nintex form was created.
  Clear All Removes all controls on the default layout and deletes all additional layouts.
  Versions (Available for list forms.) Displays a list of all saved and published forms. From this list, you can roll back a form to an earlier saved or published version.
Import/Export Import See Import and export forms.
  Export See Import and export forms.

Settings

Create Column

Displays the SharePoint Create Column dialog box to add a column to the current list.

 

Settings

Displays the Settings - Form dialog box. See Form and layout settings.

 

Form Variables

Displays the Form Variables dialog box. See Use form variables.

Workflow

Workflow Settings

Edit workflows associated with this list or add a workflow to the list.

Task Panes

Properties

Displays the Properties pane. See Properties pane.

 

Rules

Displays the Rules pane. See Rules pane.

Help

Help

Includes the following drop-down options.

  • Help: Displays the product help in a new tab.
  • About Nintex Forms: Displays the About Nintex Forms dialog box listing product information.

Control tab

Section Selection Description
Manage Control Settings Opens the control settings dialog box for the selected control.
  Delete Deletes the selected control from the current layout.
Rules Add Rule Displays the Rules pane and adds a new rule to the selected control.
Help Help Displays the Nintex Forms online help.

 

Nintex Forms 2016 tab

Section Button Description
Form Save

See Save and publish forms.
  Publish See  Save and publish forms.
  Preview Displays the form as it will be rendered in the configured device layouts. See Preview a form
  Close Closes the Nintex Forms designer and returns to the original location. You are prompted to save the current form before closing.

Copies formatting from the selected control for pasting to another control.

Settings

Create Column

Displays the SharePoint Create Column dialog box to add a column to the current list.

External Form Settings

(Available when external forms are enabled on the farm.) Displays the Settings - External Forms dialog box. See Settings - External Forms dialog box.

 

Form Variables

Displays the Form Variables dialog box. See Use form variables.

Layouts

(layout name)

The function of the button depends on its appearance. When grayed out with a plus-sign symbol (), creates a layout for the indicated device. When active, switches to the existing layout for the indicated device. The layout buttons available on the ribbon are configured at the farm level. For more information, see Manage device layouts for forms.

 

Other Devices

Lists additional layouts for selection (to create or switch to).

 

Replace With Layout

Discards controls on the current layout and replaces them with controls from the layout that you select using the Replace With Layout dialog box.

 

Delete Layout

Deletes the current layout and returns to the default layout.

Workflow

Workflow Settings

Edit workflows associated with this list or add a workflow to the list.

 

Workflow Variables

(Available when designing a form in Nintex Workflow.) Create workflow variables and start data.

Task Panes

Controls in Use

Displays the Controls In Use pane. See Identify controls in use.

 

Rules

Displays the Rules pane. See Rules pane.

Help

Help

Includes the following drop-down options.

  • Help: Displays the product help in a new tab.
  • About Nintex Forms: Displays the About Nintex Forms dialog box listing product information.

Control tab

The name of the tab corresponds to the selected control.

Section Button Description

Manage

Control Settings Opens the control settings dialog box for the selected control.

 

 Delete Deletes the selected control from the current layout.

 

 Bring to Front Brings the selected control in front of all other controls.

 

 Send to Back Sends the selected control to the back of all other controls.

Clipboard

Paste Pastes the last copied or cut controls from the clipboard to the current layout.

 

 Cut Cuts the selected controls and places them on the clipboard.

 

 Copy Copies the selected controls and places them on the clipboard.

 

 Select All Selects all controls on the current layout.

 

 Format Painter Copies formatting from the selected control for pasting to another control.
Font, Style  
  • Font: The font of the selected text.
  • Font size (pt): The font size of the selected text.

  • Font Color: The color of the selected text.

    Note: When used in Nintex Mobile layouts, the color must be a HEX or RGB value.

  • Bold: Make the selected text bold.
  • Italics: Italicize the selected text.
  • Underline: Underline the selected text.
  • Strike through: Draw a line through the middle of the selected text in the control.
  • Clear Formatting: Clear all the formatting from the control.

  • Background fill color: Color the background of the selected control.

    Note: When used in Nintex Mobile layouts, the color must be a HEX or RGB value.

  • Border color: Color the border of the selected control
  • Border select: Clear borders, Top, Left, Bottom, Right
  • Alignment tools: Align left, center, right or justify.
