Using the Barcode Scanning Control

The Barcode control allows you to capture barcodes and QR codes in a form when using the K2 Mobile app. This control must be configured with rules that handle the events and data captured using the control. For information on configuring the control see the Barcode Control topic in the K2 smartforms User Guide.

The Barcode control is only available in a form, and there is not an other way to access it in app.

Tapping the control on the form activates the device’s camera. To capture the barcode or QR code, position it within the camera’s view. The barcode or QR code is scanned and converted to a number which is then stored by the form. You can cancel the scan by tapping the X on the top left of the screen, or rescan by tapping the Refresh icon on the bottom right of the screen. Tap Done to store the barcode or QR number and return to the form.

K2 uses device-specific libraries to interpret barcodes, so the ability to read different formats depends on the formats that the device’s barcode libraries understand. See Barcode API Overview for Android devices.
