Add Jotblocks to Document

Jotblocks are used in the design phase of sending out a document. Prior to a document being sent, one or more areas can be added to a document that can display information related to the signer, or ask the signer to interact with the document in a specific way. Jotblocks are a design element of the document and are added during the creation of the document. Existing Jotblocks can also be edited by editing a template and then editing the existing Jotblocks. Jotblocks are a powerful element during the design phase of a document., and can be customized to the fit the needs of the document designer, as well as the users signing the document.

Think of Jotblocks as areas of the document where the signer needs to take some kind of action, such as signing a document, or selecting information from a drop-down menu. For example, the area where a signer signs the document is the Signature Jotblock that the user who created the document dragged onto the spot where the user needs to sign. There are several ways a user can interact with a Jotblock:

  • where data will be entered by a signer

  • where digitized signatures will be applied by a signer

  • the format of applied data

  • instructions to end users (signers) that will appear when they are walked through the document signing process

Jotblocks are also dynamic in that they can display information related to each individual signer. For example, by using specific Sender Inputs you can add fields such as "Account_Name" to a Fixed Jotblock that gets updated dynamically based on the signer of the document. For more information on the different Jotblocks available, see Jotblock Properties.

Jotblocks can be added to a document by selecting one of the available Jotblocks and dragging it on to the spot where you want the Jotblock to appear. For example, lets say you want the Signature Jotblock to be at the end of the document, you can select the Signature Jotblock and drag it to the end of the document.

Jotblock properties

When you select a Jotblock, several functions appear that allow you to edit and configure the Jotblock. These options are:

Resize Allows you to resize the selected Jotblock by selecting the resize handle in the lower-left corner of the Jotblock.
Copy Copies the selected Jotblock. This also copies that settings set up in the Properties menu.
Delete Deletes the selected Jotblock.
Properties Opens the Properties menu where additional settings can be configured for that Jotblock, such as font size, font color, and other formatting options. For more information on the different common properties that can be configured, see Common Jotblock Properties.

Assign Jotblocks to a specific signer

Once you have added at least one signer, you can assign specific Jotblocks for that user to interact with. For example, let's say you have a document that is being sent out to several users, but only one user needs to sign the document. By assigning the Signature Jotblock to that user, only they can interact with that Jotblock and sign the document.

To assign a Jotblock:

  1. Select the signer from the list of signers that have been added to the document.

  2. Confirm the signer is selected by making sure that the background behind the signer's name and email address is highlighted. The Jotblocks you assign to the user will also match the same background color as the selected user.

  3. Drag and drop a Jotblock (Signature, Initials, etc.) onto the document.
