Map Drive

The Map Drive action maps a drive.

Important: This action is dependent on the user environment and group policies and may not work as expected.

Note: You must be at the Professional or Expert Level to access and use the Map Drive action.

Note: The Actions Quick Reference provides a complete list of actions that you can print for easy reference.

Create a Map Drive action

  1. On the Actions list, click Files and select Map Drive from the Drives section.

  2. Enter the Drive letter that you want to use. Optionally, click the Magic Wand to use the Expression Builder.

Note: Nintex Bot does not validate if the drive letter you enter is already in use. You can use the Drive Exists action to determine if it is in use.

  3. Enter the full UNC path to the shared Folder that you want to map. For example, \\vmware-host\Shared Folders with no slash at the end. Optionally, click the Magic Wand to use the Expression Builder.

  4. If you want to use credentials to access the network and create the mapped drive, select the Use different credentials check box. You must create the credential before creating the Map Drive action. For more information, see Create Credential

    • If there are no credentials, then:

      • If the user name is null, the action uses the default user name (the user context for the process provides the default user name).

      • If the password is null, the action uses the current default password associated with the user specified by the user name parameter.

      • If the password is "" then the function does not use a password.

    • If you want to use credentials, enter the Credential name in the project, enter the Username for accessing the shared drive, and Confirm the password used to access the shared drive in the credential and that will be used to create the mapped drive.

  5. If needed, adjust the Run error task settings to fine tune how the action runs.

    • Run error task: A botflow containing an error task automatically runs the error task in the event of an error. If the botflow does not contain an error task, the botflow stops in the event of an error.
    • Stop on error: The botflow stops in the event of an error.
    • Ignore errors: The action is skipped in the event of an error and the botflow attempts to execute the next action.
  6. (Optional) Add a Note to document special instructions or functionality.

  7. Toggle the run switch to Run and click OK to execute and save the action.

  8. Note: The run switch is set to Run by default. To create or modify this action without executing it, click the slider to change the option to Don't Run.  For more information, go to Action Builder.

Important:
  • The mapped drive may not be visible in File Explorer, but still exist.

  • Rebooting the machine will remove the mapped drive because the Nintex Bot does not have the option to reconnect at sign-in. However, in some instances, after rebooting and executing the action a second time, the mapped drive may became visible in File Explorer.
