Text - Short

This form control is supported on Nintex Mobile in both online and offline modes.

Use the Text - Short form control to create fields that accept a single line of text. You can add placeholder text, define a text mask to constrain input from the user, and set the maximum number of characters the field accepts.

Note: You can arrange up to six of this control on a single row in the form.

Section Setting Description
(unlabeled) Title

Field name displayed on the published form.

 

Customize

Switch toggle to Yes to enable customization of the variable Name of the form control.

 

Name

(This field becomes configurable only when you switch the Customize toggle to Yes.)

Customizes the name of the variable A placeholder that stores changes each time the workflow runs, such as the information entered in a form, or the name of a file. You can also create variables to store information you use in the workflow, such as an email address. for the field. If the name is not customized, the Title will be used as the variable name.

 

Default value

The value that automatically populates the field when the form loads.

Click in this field, and then click Insert to launch the Formula builder where you can create variables with applied formulas. The calculated value becomes the default value.

  Input validation

Options to validate the input value. Select one of the following:

  • Length: The maximum number of characters to allow in the field. When the Length option is selected, the Maximum number of characters field is displayed.
  • Text mask: String pattern to display in the field on the published form, indicating required characters and types. The pattern is displayed when the field is in focus and a character is typed. Example string patterns: phone, date, currency, zip code, percentage.
  • Regular expression: Used for input values that contains a combination of numbers, characters or symbols that should follow a certain syntax or pattern. For example, a user input can be a serial number that must follow a certain format such as SN1234-01. You can use regular expression patterns (follows .Net syntax) to validate such input values.   Maximum number of characters (Available only when Length is selected in the Input validation field.)
The maximum number of characters you want to allow in the field.
  Pattern (Available when either Text mask or Regular expression is selected in the Input validation field.) Pattern used to validate the input value.
  Custom Regular expression message (Available only when Regular expression is selected in the Input validation field.)
The message to display when the user input does not follow the expected pattern or syntax.
 

Required

Mandates entry of a value before the form can be submitted.

 

Custom required message

(Displays when you select Yes in Required)

The text which displays below the field when a value is not entered into the field upon change form page or on form submit.

 

Visible

Shows the field on the published form when loaded.

 

Read-only

Displays the field on the published form but does not allow user input.

 

Placeholder

Default text displayed in the field on the published form. This default text disappears when the user types the first valid character inside the field.

 

Description

A description of the field to display below the field on the published form.

 

Tooltip

The message which appears when users hover their cursor or touch the information icon beside the Text - Short control in the form.

  Shrink Reduces the width of the control when placed in a row with other form controls.
  Expand Increases the width of the control when placed in a row with other form controls.
Styling CSS class

Add a CSS class to apply a style to this form control. You can create the CSS class in the CSS code editor in form styles. Enter one class name or multiple class names separated by a space.

Note: The CSS Class field is available only if the Custom CSS setting is enabled in Nintex Automation Cloud Form settings.

Border color

Border color to apply to the field.

To select a color, click the color box and use the color picker to specify the color you want. You can click on the color map to select the color or enter the Hex code.

To revert back to the global style, click Reset to global style.

  Control fill

The color to fill the inside of the field.

To select a color, click the color box and use the color picker to specify the color you want. You can click on the color map to select the color or enter the Hex code.

To revert back to the global style, click Reset to global style.

  Control input color

The font color of the input in the field.

To select a color, click the color box and use the color picker to specify the color you want. You can click on the color map to select the color or enter the Hex code.

To revert back to the global style, click Reset to global style.
