Manually starting workflows

This topic describes how to manually start list and site workflows.

Workflows configured for manual start can be manually started. For more information on this workflow configuration, including automatic start options for created or modified items, see Workflow Settings dialog box.

To manually start a workflow on a list item (SharePoint list or library)

  1. Access the Workflows page for the list item: Click More options (), click Advanced, and then click Workflows.

    The Workflows page lists published workflows on the current list that are available for manual initiation.

  2. Under Start a New Workflow, click the name of the desired workflow.

    The Start Workflow page appears with a preview of the selected workflow.

  3. Click Start.

    The list is redisplayed with columns indicating progress of workflows by item.

To manually start a site workflow

  1. Access the Workflows page for site workflows: Click (Settings), click Site contents, and then click Site Workflows.

    The Workflows page lists published site workflows that are available for manual initiation.

  2. Under Start a New Workflow, click the name of the desired workflow.

    The Start Workflow page appears with a preview of the selected workflow.

  3. Click Start.

    The Workflows page is displayed and the list of running and completed workflows is updated.
