Preinstallation / Upgrade: Before you start

  • For easy installation, make sure you have the setup files (RPA server, Studio, and Robots) in the same folder.

  • You will need to have local admin permissions to install the Nintex RPA server and Robots.

For a smooth installation, we recommend you review the below list of possible and optional configurations you may encounter throughout the RPA Server installation process:

If you are re-installing Nintex RPA Platform for any reason, make sure to restart the server after uninstalling and before you start with the new installation.

If you are planning to work with Citrix, make sure you have the Citrix Workspace application installed on the client machines (Robot and Studio), and .NET Desktop Runtime 3.1.13 on the server side.

Citrix is supported only if you have administrator access to the Citrix server.

If you are planning to install Seq on a different server, either install Seq on the server, OR run the Nintex's Seq Installation Wrapper file on that server. The Nintex Seq Installation Wrapper wraps Seq with Nintex's configurations for easier installation of the RPA Server. Either way, make sure to configure a retention policy for Seq.

You can review the list of default ports that the RPA server is set to use (you can also set different ports). If you don't have the specified ports open, don't worry about it as you can open them with a click through the installation wizard (provided they aren't in use). See NintexDefault ports.

Ensure that there is a user with the rights to run Nintex services on the RPA server:

  • If you will be using Username & Password authentication, this user must have local administrative rights for the machine on which the Nintex RPA Server will be installed (can be either a domain user or a local system account).

  • If you will be using Kerberos authentication (Single Sign-on), this user must be a member of the domain (in Active Directory) and have local administrative rights for the machine on which the Nintex RPA Server will be installed.

We recommend you create a user for the specific purpose of running Nintex services (i.e., a user that will not log in to the RPA server for any other purpose).

Obtain a KEYTAB file from your Domain Administrator (optional at this stage; a KEYTAB can also be generated during or after RPA server installation).

If you are planning to connect the RPA server to a remote database server, make sure to prepare the Nintex Database Server.

The RPA installer gives you the option to connect to a remote database and install a local SQL Server.

When using an external Redis user interface, you need to enter the the password from the relevant file.
