Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud

Use the Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud action A tool for building the processes, logic, and direction within workflows. to start a Nintex Automation Cloud workflow that has been configured with a Nintex Component workflow start event.
The Nintex Automation Cloud workflow is triggered by the Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud action using the External start URL. This URL is triggered for component workflows in Nintex Automation Cloud.

Add and configure the Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud action
Note: Make sure that the workflow with the Nintex Component workflow start event is created in Nintex Automation Cloud before you proceed.
In the Nintex for Office 365 designer page:
- Click the Integration action group in the action toolbox.

Drag the Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud action to the Designer canvas.

Open the Action configuration window. For steps on how to open the Action configuration window, see Action configuration window.
- Copy the Component workflow URL from Nintex Automation Cloud and enter it in the External start URL field.

Type the action name or function in the Search field at the top of the action toolbox.
- Click Connect.

When the workflow is successfully connected, the text [Connected] appears below the URL and the start event variables of the Component workflow is shown.
- Configure the start event variables. For instructions, see the table with field description given below.
- Click Save.

External start URL |
The URL that passes an HTTPS call from Nintex Workflow for Office 365 to the workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud. Note: If the workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud has one or more start event variables and they change after it is connected to Nintex for Office 365, the workflow will attempt to start with invalid parameters. However, the workflow logs an entry to the workflow history indicating that the parameters do not match. To resolve this open the action configuration window for the Start workflow in Nintex Automation Cloud action in the workflow and save it again to update the list of parameters. |

With a connected External start URL, the action will create fields from the start event variables that have been configured in the Nintex Automation Cloud workflow. Each start event variable will be listed by name, with its data type. These fields accept reference data from your workflow, using Advanced Lookup. For more information about advanced lookup, see Lookups in action configuration fields. Note: Only Text, Decimal, Integer, Boolean and DateTime variable types are supported when calling a component workflow from Nintex Automation Cloud. Collection variables are passed to the Nintex Workflow for Office 365 workflow as Text variables.
