Nintex Solution Studio

Solution Studio is Nintex's orchestration environment for building and managing multi-stage processes called "solutions." It ties together powerful, discrete tools of the Nintex platform. Coordinating how to take user-submitted data and move it through Nintex Apps, Nintex Workflow, Nintex DocGen, and Nintex eSign processes can be complex and require in-depth knowledge of all these tools. But with Solution Studio, these connections are orchestrated by default, with the requirements for building these abstracted into the following:

  • Solutions: The bundle of assets that process data across multiple Nintex products
  • Flows: The sequenced units of work that intake some type of business data and then use that data to create new assets, assign tasks, and conduct other procedures
  • Stages: The discrete phases of work that make up a flow, typically aligned with your own business processes, providing a way to coordinate pages and workflows

Important: Solution Studio is an application built on Nintex cloud components, as such Solution Studio is not a separate supported product but a use as it is helper application. Please engage with Nintex Professional Services if you need help solving app issues.

Install Solution Studio

Solution Studio requires installation by a Nintex team. Inquire with your Nintex representative to discuss your options for adding this product to your tenant.

Access Solution Studio

Once installed, the Solution Studio is accessed as an app within Nintex Apps:

  1. Go to Nintex Apps. If in Nintex Workflow, click Apps from the navigation bar.
  2. In the apps list, click Nintex Solution Studio.
  3. In the app's detail screen, click Go to URL to launch.

Alternatively, the Solution Studio can be accessed from the user menu in the top navigation.

  1. Click your user avatar in the Nintex Apps navigation bar.
  2. Go to My apps > Nintex Solution Studio.

Important:  Do not edit the app files shown in the Nintex Solution Studio app detail. Doing so could cause issues that require Nintex assistance to resolve.

Concepts

How data flows through solutions

The Solution Studioworks with various components of the Nintex Platform, namely Apps, Workflow, Tables, DocGen, and eSign. Solutions are bundles of assets - app pages, workflows, document generation packages, as well as stages and their components - that can be created, exported, and imported in the Studio.

Solutions deal with entities, which are a category of business object that travels through the solution, like company location for onboarding an employee or account type for a customer. Each instance of an entity is called just that, an instance. Instances are created when a user engages with one of the solution's flows. Solutions can have multiple flows to work with different types of user-submitted data.

When a user submits data through a flow's start form, an App's page passes all information gathered into the solution and an instance is created. This instance data then passes through each of the flow's stages.

Solution details, admin apps, and portal apps

Solutions are managed and used in three separate areas:

  • Solution details: Most solution configuration happens in the Solution Studio within the solution's detail screen. From this screen you can view the solution's entities and instances, UI customizations, error alerts, and flow configurations.
  • Admin app: This app allows administrators who may be involved with orchestrating the workflows and details of a solution to adjust the content of forms used within the solution, monitor all submitted instances, and view reporting and analytics regarding the solution.
  • Portal app: This is the interface end users will engage with for a solution. It allows users to submit data to a solution's start form when they click Add (instance name) from within the portal. It also shows any tasks relevant to that solution assigned to that user.
