Create a document package

To generate documents, you will need to create a document package. In the document package, you can design your document templates and insert tags that will merge data into them. To design your document template, start by creating a document or uploading a document you already have created.

Creating a document package consists of the following:

Create a new document package

To create a new document package:

  1. Go to Documents.

  2. Click Create document. A drop-down menu is displayed.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    Note: The option to add to a solution or create as a standalone is available only when you are using the new Nintex CE Platform Experience. Switch to the new experience to use this option. If you are not using the new experience, it's created as a standalone. See, Opt in to the new Nintex CE Platform.

    • Add a Solution: To create a document package as part of a solution.

    • Create as Standalone: To create a standalone document package.

  4. If you are adding the document package to a solution, select:

    • Add to an existing solution: To add the document package to an existing solution. Select the solution.

    • Create a new solution: To create a new solution and add the document package to it.

Optional:

  • To change the name of the package to something specific, open the Settings panel and change the Package name.

    Note: The package name defaults to the name of the user currently creating the package and the date and time of creation. It is recommended to name this package based on the document and data contained within the package, as the package name will need to be referenced later when creating a document action flow.

  • You can rename the generated output file by changing the Output filename. The default output package name is OutputFile.pdf.

    Caution: The maximum number of characters is limited to 200. If your file name is larger than 200 characters then the name of the file will be truncated down to reach the 200 character limit.

    You can also use a field tag for your output filename. For more information, see Add a tag to your document package settings.

Document package columns, settings, and selections

Selection or column

Description
Document package

Name specified when the document package was saved or published.
Solution If the document package is a part of a Solution, the name of the Solution.
Last edited The date and time when the document package was last edited and the name of the user who last edited it.
Options ()

Lists selections relevant to the indicated document package.

Edit: Opens the document package.

Duplicate: Creates a duplicate document package with the same name and (Copy) included in the name.

Delete: Deletes the document package.
