Designer canvas
The Designer canvas is part of the Designer and it is where you view and configure your workflow. Drag and drop actions from the action toolbox to the Designer canvas to build your workflow.

Add, configure, rename, and copy actions
- On the left of the Designer page, in the actions toolbox, find the action you want to add.
Type the action name or function in the Search field at the top of the action toolbox.
To browse actions, expand action groups.

Drag and drop the action onto a drop zone () on the Designer canvas.
Note: You must configure all actions in your workflow before you publish it. Actions that are not configured completely will display a warning sign (). If your workflow has such actions an error will be displayed when you attempt to publish it and the workflow will not be published.
To open the Action configuration window for an action, do one of the following:
- Double-click the action.
- On the action, click and then select Configure.

Click the action title to make it editable and type the name you want.
- On the action, click and then select Copy.
- Click a drop zone () and then select Paste.
Disable and delete actions
Disabled actions (including any child actions) appear greyed out on the designer canvas and are omitted when the workflow runs.
- On the action, click and then select Disable.
- On the action, click and then select Delete
Navigate large workflows
You can compress the workflow design by collapsing container actions or zooming in and out using the zoom selector.

Click or on the upper left border of the container action.
- Click the plus or minus sign on the zoom selector on the upper left of the designer canvas.
Information messages
The following types of information messages may appear at the top of the design canvas from time to time.
- Subscription licensing: Your organization is licensed for a set number of workflows and forms. When it is approaching or at the maximum number, an information message appears.
- Workflow size limit: When the current workflow is approaching or at the maximum size, an information message appears. See .

Opens the action configuration settings window. See, Action configuration window. |
Copy |
Copies the action and its configuration settings for pasting to a drop zone on the design canvas. Note: The context menu for a drop zone () includes the Paste option. |
Delete |
Removes the action from the workflow. |
Disable |
Omits the action (and any child actions) when the workflow runs. |
Enable |
Includes the action (and any child actions) when the workflow runs. |
Expand |
(Displayed when branches in action are collapsed.) Shows all branches in the container action. |
Collapse |
(Displayed when branches in actions are expanded to show all branches.) Hides branches in the container action. |
Edit Task Form |
(Available only for task actions, such as Assign a task.) Launches Nintex Forms for Office 365 with the task form for the action. |
