Version history
Version history lets you browse every version of a process, preview how it looked in an earlier version, and restore an earlier version if you want to go back to it.
Each time a process is published, the published version is kept. Version history lists these versions, together with the current draft if there is one. It is useful when a recent edit has introduced a mistake, or when you want to return to a version that was working well.
Each version has one of these states:
-
Draft: the version you are currently editing. A process has at most one draft.
-
Published: the most recent published version.
-
Historical: an earlier published version.
The current version is the draft process , if there is one. If there is no draft, it is the most recent published version.
You need Permissions to edit the process to see the Version history button.
Note: Version history is available when the feature is enabled for your workspace. If you do not see the Version history button in the header, ask your Nintex administrator whether it is enabled.
-
Open the process in Map view.
-
In the header, click Version history. The editor switches to a read-only view, and the Version history panel opens.
-
In the panel, select a version card. The preview and the header update to show that version: its number, its state, and its date and time. You cannot edit a version while you preview it.
-
To change how the preview is displayed, select Map or Procedure in the header.
-
If the list is long, click Load more at the bottom of the panel to show older versions. When every version is shown, the message All versions loaded appears.
-
To leave version history without changing anything, click the back button at the left of the header (Back to designer workspace).
Note: Each version card shows the version number, its state, and who made it and when: Edited by [name], [date] for a draft, or Published by [name], [date] for a published or historical version. The current version is marked Current Version. The newest versions are listed first. If a process has only one version, the panel shows only that version, and there is nothing to restore.
Important: Restoring a process to an earlier version cannot be undone.
Restoring an earlier version of a process replaces the content of your draft with the content of the version you choose. Make sure that is what you want before you confirm.
-
Open version history and select the version you want to go back to. You cannot restore the current version.
-
Click Restore this version in the header. Or, on that version's card, open the options menu and select Restore.
-
Read the message in the Restore Version [number]? dialog. What it says depends on whether the process has a draft:
-
If a draft exists, the message is: This will overwrite your draft with Version [number]'s content. The draft will stay at Version [number]. This can't be undone.
-
If there is no draft, the message is: This will create a new draft, Version [number], using Version [number]'s content. This can't be undone.
-
-
Click Restore to continue, or click Cancel to close the dialog without making any change.
-
Wait for the message Version restored successfully. You return to the editor, where the restored draft opens automatically so you can continue editing.
Considerations
-
Restoring an earlier version of a process replaces the process content only: the flow, activities, decisions, connections, and the information inside them. The process name, location, and process details are not changed. The earlier versions are not changed either, so you can still preview them later.
-
Restoring a process is recorded in the changelog. On the Content changes tab you see an entry such as Draft is created with content from Version 3.0 or Draft content is overwritten with content from Version 3.0.
