Accessibility

Accessibility is the ability of a software product to be used by all users, including those visually impaired and with disabilities. Nintex is working toward meeting WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria in the Nintex Automation Cloud Forms runtime experience (published forms), which will serve as a cornerstone for Section 508 and ADA compliance. Multiple phases of accessibility refinements are planned. Currently, the following features and controls have been optimized for accessibility for Nintex Forms participants:

  • Support for screen readers in web forms, including ARIA tags and announcements. This ensures that language encoding is correctly inherited. Screen readers can transition into the form from the browser tab smoothly. Nintex tested screen reader support using the NVDA screen reader.

    • Screen readers can read the number of errors on the form so that participants can understand what is happening on the form.

    • Screen readers can read descriptions, required fields, tooltips, and placeholder text, which helps designers ensure that their forms are accessible to their participants.

    • Screen readers can recognize and read error messages while passing through the email control.

    • Screen readers can read the currency type and number.

    • Screen readers can read the form submission status.

  • All Nintex default theme colors displayed meet the minimum WCAG 2 AA contrast ratio requirements.

  • Support for assistive technologies in mobile and web browsers, including descriptions, element formatting, and alternative text.

  • Clear and consistent navigation schemes for multipage forms.

  • Simple form submission controls for the Submit button, short text, email, bar code, number, and currency controls. Form designers can start creating fully compliant forms.

  • Clear form validation and error messages.

  • Removal of iframes from web forms. Web form pages are now hosted as web components.

  • Every ID attribute value is unique.

  • [role='img'] elements have alternate text.

  • Documents have a main landmark and all page content is contained by landmarks.
