Preparing your Environment for Nintex K2 for SharePoint

From Nintex Automation 5.7 onwards there are two different apps for SharePoint. The legacy Nintex K2 for SharePoint: used for SharePoint on-premises and upgraded environments for SharePoint Online, and Nintex Automation for SharePoint: used on new installations for SharePoint Online.

Installing Nintex K2 for SharePoint involves running the Upgrade Manager to update the existing components, deploying the Nintex K2 for SharePoint App to the app catalog, and finally configuring the app.

If you are installing the product on a server that does not have the required components, run the Setup Manager first.

This topic outlines what components are updated, and what the software and hardware requirements are for installing and running Nintex K2 for SharePoint. This information should be used to ensure that your environment is ready to run Nintex K2 for SharePoint.

Updated Components

Keep in mind that no components are installed on the SharePoint server - only the Nintex K2 for SharePoint app is deployed to the SharePoint app catalog. After the app is deployed you run the Registration Wizard in SharePoint to connect it with a server.

If your SharePoint farm installation is distributed, you must run AppDeployment.exe on a SharePoint Application server that includes the Central Administration server or at least the SharePoint Management Shell. Keep in mind that you must install Nintex K2 for SharePoint on each app catalog and match its version to the version of your product server. The best way to do this is to copy the K2 for SharePoint Application Deployment.exe self-extracting file from your Nintex Automation installation source to your SharePoint server and then run it. You can delete these files once you’ve completed the Nintex K2 for SharePoint installation (also called AppDeployment).

Hardware and Software Requirements

Before installing the product, ensure the following prerequisite software has been installed in your environment.

There are no additional hardware requirements for the Nintex K2 for SharePoint application.

Windows Powershell 3 or later ( which you can download from the Microsoft Download Center) is required. Powershell 3 is part of Windows Server 2012.

Software Prerequisites

The following list of software is required for the Nintex K2 for SharePoint Application:

  • The 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2012
  • SharePoint Server 2016/2019 Standard Edition or SharePoint Server 2016/2019 Enterprise Edition ( for information on SharePoint versions supported by the Nintex K2 for SharePoint App, see the Preparing SharePoint On-Premises section of the Preparing SharePoint topic).
  • .NET Framework 4.6.1 (is part of the prerequisite check during the product installation, and needs to be installed).
  • Internet Explorer 11 or
    • Google Chrome (latest released version) or
    • Mozilla Firefox (latest released version) or
    • Apple Safari (latest released version)
