Update step

The Update step feature allows you to replace the screen capture of a specific step in a wizard without losing existing metadata, bubbles, fallbacks, or advanced commands. This is different from appending a new recording.

How to update steps

  1. Open the Nintex Wizard Editor.

  2. Go to the Navigation pane and find the step you want to update.

  3. Right-click on the step and select Update step from the context menu.

  4. Use the recorder that opens to capture a new screen image for the selected step.

When you update a step, the visual content and core action gets replaced, along with the step name and Window data. All other elements such as bubbles, metadata, fallbacks, and advanced commands are retained. This minimizes the need for additional adjustments.

Warning message after updating

After updating a step, a warning message may appear: “The replaced step had related annotations which must be reviewed or removed.” This message indicates that the step name and Window data have been reset to align with the new recording. This process prevents outdated associations and ensures the smooth execution of the wizard.

The difference between Append recording and Update step

Here’s how Append recording and Update step differ in Nintex Wizard Editor:

  • Append recording: Adds new steps to an existing wizard, extending the sequence without changing current steps. This is ideal when you need to add more steps without modifying existing content.

  • Update step: Replaces the screen capture of a specific step without altering associated elements like fallbacks, bubbles, and advanced commands. However, Update step will refresh the core action, step name, and Window data to align with the new recording. Use this when some elements of the screen have changed but you want to retain the additional background data associated with that screen.
