Planning for SQL User Manager in K2
The K2 SQL user manager allows user information to be stored in and retrieved from a SQL database. K2 uses the SQL database for authentication and authorization of K2 tasks. The SQL user manager is available out-of-the-box as an alternative to Active Directory. If the Active Directory service is not detected (or not started) on the K2 Server machine at installation, the User Manager Settings page shows during installation, and the SQL User Manager can be selected.
If you intend on setting up SQLUM after K2 installation (in other words, having used AD during installation of K2), you need to follow the procedure discussed in the Changing the Default User Manager topic.
For installation of a custom user manager, the K2 installation must be completed with the K2 SQLUM installed and the steps mentioned in the Configure the SQLUM topic must be followed. These steps describe how to reconfigure K2 to use the SQLUM and shows the steps needed to register a new security label.
