K2 blackpearl is a feature and resource rich platform for developing BPM applications for your organization. For the developer it's key to have access to the organizational information silos and this is often made difficult due to legacy systems. Usually code would need to be written to enable interaction between the LOB systems. The shortfall in this approach is that the code written for SAP integration would not necessarily enable integration with a SQL or Oracle database.
Once access and interaction with the organizational infrastructure is established, workflow is introduced to negotiate interaction with the organizational resources.
To illustrate, a BPM application requires a user interface, a data store, access to organization resources and business rules logic to facilitate interaction and involvement with the various stake holders and role players.
