Salesforce Email as Delivery Method
Salesforce Email as Delivery Method sends generated documents by email from the Salesforce email server. To use this method, you would set up the delivery method as usual and use a Word to Email Template or Salesforce Email Template.
Salesforce Email Delivery Method is not the same as SMTP The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a communication protocol for electronic mail transmission. Delivery, which uses non-Salesforce email servers. For more information on non-Salesforce server delivery options, see SMTP Delivery Method
Use Salesforce Email as the Delivery Method
- Open or Create a DocGen Package.
- Select the Delivery tab.
- In the Select Delivery Method or Storage Location window, click the > Email drop down option.
- Click Email.
Note: You must complete any fields that are marked with an asterisk (*).
Delivery Options
Field Description Delivery Option Name* This is the name of the delivery option. Document Output Type*
- Single PDF: The output will be a single PDF.
- Separate PDF Files: The output will be separate PDF files.
- Same as Original: This output will be individual files in the same format as the template used.
- Track Changes in Word Docs: Enable this option to turn on the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word.
- Single PDF and Same as Original: The output will be a single PDF and individual files in the same format as the template used.
- Track Changes in Word Docs: Enable this option to turn on the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word.
Make DocGen Package Available On* Select one or both of these options to choose what you want your DocGen Package available on.
- Lists and Reports: Allow the DocGen Package to be available on lists A DocGen Run that is starts from a user's action, implicitly started (such as changing a field), or a scheduled process. Also known as Auto Run. and reports Salesforce says, "A report returns a set of records that meets certain criteria, and displays it in organized rows and columns.".
- Individual Records: Allow the DocGen Package to be available on the actual data associated with your starting object.
Processing Options
- Automatically Process and Send: This option automatically processes and sends the DocGen Package without preview.
- On Screen and Auto Send: This option will show an on-screen preview and then auto send the DocGen Package.
- On Screen and Preview Before Sending: This option will show an on-screen preview and preview of the actual document before sending the DocGen Package.
- Preview Step Help Text: This field will only appear if On Screen and Preview Before Sending is selected. The text that displays here will be a preview step during document generation.
Help Text
This text that appears in a pop up for the delivery option when you hover your mouse over the question mark on the run DocGen Package page.
You must complete any fields that are marked with an asterisk (*).
Use the reference table to complete the Salesforce Email as Delivery Method fields
Field Description From End User: The "From" line will contain the email address of the user creating the DocGen Package. Additional To
Add additional email addresses for the "To" line.
CC Stands for carbon copy, any email entered in this field will receive a copy of the email. Email Contents*
Specified by User: The user is allowed to edit the body of the email.
Word to Email Template: Nintex DocGen will use the .doc or .docx template in the email.
Salesforce Email Template: Use any Salesforce email templates you have stored in Salesforce.

Tip: You can type tags to dynamically add addresses during document generation.
Note: You will have the option to preview the email template before you send it.
Internal Email
Check this option to allow for internal routing of email by removing the associated contact or lead email reference. BCC
Stands for blind carbon copy. Any email entered in this field will receive a copy of the email, but the recipients email address will not appear in the output email header.
- Click Save.
Add a field for a subject line to the Salesforce Delivery Option page
This feature is not yet supported in the Lightning Experience DocGen Designer. |
Adding a subject line to the Salesforce Delivery Option pages allows you customize the email even further.
The subject field is available on the layout, but you have to drag the field onto the page layout to make it available. If you add a field for a subject line, you can enter a default subject that will appear in every Salesforce email your users deliver. If you don't enable the Auto Send option, the user will have the option to edit the default subject line before the email is sent.
Follow these steps in the Classic Experience to add a field for a subject line:

From Setup, type Objects in the Quick Find box, then click Objects for a list of custom objects in your organization.

Click Delivery Option.

Click Page Layouts.

In the Page Layouts related list, click Edit for Email Layout.

From the Field picker, select Subject and drag it onto the page layout.

Click Save.
Test the Salesforce Email Delivery Method
Put the Salesforce Email Delivery Method to work by making sure it works with the DocGen Package Tester. For more information, see Test DocGen Packages
- Navigate to the App Launcher by selecting the in the upper left corner, select Nintex DocGen.
- Select the DocGen Packages tab.
- Select the DocGen Package that contains the Salesforce Email Delivery Method.
- Select a Record to use to test run the DocGen Package.
- Select Salesforce Email as the Delivery Option.
- The delivery option will be called whatever you named it in the Delivery Option Name field.
- Click Run Test or Run DocGen Package.
- Once the DocGen Package has run, create the email by clicking on Compose Email.
- Type in the basic information for the New Email, then click Send.
Nintex DocGen will send the email.
